Bubbakoo’s Burritos Builds Brand Loyalty & Increases Revenue with Grubhub Direct
Learn how Bubbakoo’s legendary burritos capture higher average tickets and engage loyal diners with their branded website.
Nearly fourteen years ago, Bill Hart and Paul Altero put their heads together to create a new, unique way to make burritos. One that reflected the fun, colorful, and laid-back vibe of the Jersey Shore. A New Jersey native himself, Altero wanted to create a place to relax – and eat legendary burritos – no matter the location.
After opening doors in Point Pleasant in 2008, Bubbakoo’s Burritos proved to be an immediate success. Their take on Mexican-fusion cuisine is always high-quality, fresh, made-to-order, and affordable for kids, families, and seniors alike.
Not to mention, their menu is much more broad than your average fast-casual Mexican. With flavors like hibachi shrimp or Nashville hot chicken inside a burritodilla or a basket of spicy buffalo fried cauliflower, their innovation is definitely appreciated among diners.
Capturing a different audience and larger order size
With success on the east coast, Bubbakoo’s went on to open dozens more restaurants for diners across the country to get a bite of the infamous shore and skater scene. But when it came to digital expansion, they knew they couldn’t miss out on partnering with the best food delivery service.
“We wanted to provide our diners with a flawless ordering experience to get their favorite Bubbakoo’s Burritos menu items for delivery or pickup”, Chris Ives, VP of Finance and Development, Bubbakoo’s Burritos explains.
With access to 33+ million diners, now both Bubbakoo’s Burritos’ commission-free branded channels and their Grubhub Marketplace are equally important when it comes to reaching the largest number of new guests.
How Bubbakoo uses Grubhub Direct to build brand loyalty
Bubbakoo’s Burritos wanted to make it easy for customers to order their favorite burritos for pickup or delivery. They decided to add a new online ordering option with Grubhub Direct.
Grubhub Direct is a commission-free, quick-launch, branded web ordering solution that allows the burrito chain to capture a different customer and order type than the restaurant’s other channels.
Plus, the restaurant can maintain ownership of guests’ data for marketing and research purposes, while using Grubhub’s marketing and loyalty program tools.
Growing orders and reaching new customers
With Grubhub Direct, Bubbakoo’s Burritos has seen:
- 21% higher gross average ticket size on orders through the Grubhub Direct branded website versus the restaurant’s mobile app
- Re-orders from more than 1 in 3 diners who used the restaurant’s Grubhub Direct site in the first eight months since it launched
- An increase in web orders, making up 50% of the restaurant’s owned digital traffic in less than a year since launch
We’re thrilled with the success we’ve seen with our launch of branded web ordering with Grubhub Direct, which has resulted in high average tickets and repeat diners.
Chris Ives, VP of Finance and Development, Bubbakoo’s Burritos
Diners that place their first order on Bubbakoo’s Burritos’ branded web ordering site through Grubhub Direct tend to build a habit and continue to place their next several orders the exact same way.
In fact, in only the first eight months since launch, over 1 in 3 diners who ordered once through the brand’s website ordered via the channel again during that same time frame.
Not to mention, diners rapidly adopted Bubbakoo’s branded web ordering site: in less than a year since launch, orders placed via web already make up over 50% of the brand’s owned digital traffic.
That’s what we call a win!
A burrito chain to watch
With over 67 restaurants open and 26 more coming soon, it’s safe to say Bubbakoo’s is here to stay. More than that, they were named #6 out of 25 for Nation’s Restaurant News most fastest growing chains for 2021.
One thing Paul and Bill attribute to their burrito success, and a deciding factor in the chain’s growth, is the focus on customer service. And with Grubhub Direct, Bubbakoo’s Burritos can provide their customers with a seamless ordering experience. “Our diners love the ease of our branded web experience, and we are so excited to give guests another way to order,” explained Chris Ives.
Bubbakoo’s Burritos trusts Grubhub’s attention to detail and easy-to-use technology to help continue growing their revenue streams.
